Senior High School in Malvar (SHSM) upholds its commitment on the anti-drug campaign by participating to the 2019 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week (DAPC) on November 25 to 29, 2019. With the theme, “Katarungan para sa Kalusugan, Kalusugan para sa Katarungan”, students, faculty members and stakeholders joined hands to eliminate the menace of the prohibited substance.
Enriching curricular reforms on anti-illegal drugs, SHSM in partnership with PNP Malvar Police Station conducted activities to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs. Weeklong celebration of the program is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 124.
Exactly 6:30 in the morning on November 25, 2019, Dennis Castillo, DAPC Coordinator, facilitated the kickoff celebration through a parade from Malvar Public Cemetery to the school proper. According to Mr. Castillo, starting point of the parade serves as a wakeup call to students as it will be their destination in using illegal drugs. Students from different sections carried placards bearing slogans against the ill effects of the substance abuse and addiction. The advocacy parade was also participated by Supreme Student Government (SSG), teaching and non-teaching staff and stakeholders.
The program started with a prayer led by Mabel delas Alas followed by the singing of National Anthem, Hymno ng Malvar and School Hymn led by Chawee Edrielyn Bacal, teachers of SHSM. Dr. Lorenzo Asinas, Assistant Principal for Academics delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Jhomar Sor, School Principal gave an inspiring message and highlighted the success of the advocacy parade. He pointed out the youth’s involvement and awareness in the anti-drug campaign is an essential step to stop illegal drugs. “Prevention is better than cure”, he said. DAPC Flag was hoisted by Sor and Asinas afterwards. Castillo brought a PEP talk on DAPC stressing the importance of student’s drug awareness and prevention. Roared by the “Galit sa Droga, Ayaw sa Droga” yell, the first day of the program ended successfully. Opening program is hosted by Jenny Vieve Oamil, teacher in SHSM.
