Successful Quarter 1, 2023 SMEPA Meeting Unveils Key Developments

In a recent School Monitoring Evaluation and Plan Adjustment Meeting held for Quarter 1 of 2023 at Malvar Senior High School, significant developments and key insights were unveiled, shedding light on the institution's progress and future plans. The meeting, attended by prominent stakeholders including the local government, parents' association, and student body representatives, showcased various critical points of discussion that will steer the school's educational trajectory.

1. Enrollment Report and Classroom Needs:

Ms. Rosalie L. Liwanag, Principal II, presented a comprehensive Enrollment Report comparing the end of the previous school year to the beginning of the current academic year. The report revealed a decrease in the total number of enrollees, attributed to the establishment of two additional senior high schools in Malvar. Despite the decline, a significant 1,743 students enrolled at the start of the year, underscoring the pressing need for additional classrooms to accommodate the student population.


2. Project SIKKAP and Dropout Reduction:

Ms. Marianne Caraig, Master Teacher II, elaborated on Project SIKKAP, a strategic initiative titled "Sa Inspirasyon, Kaalaman, at Kahusayan, Ako ay makaPagtatapos," which proved instrumental in reducing the dropout rate during the last school year.

3. Academic Interventions and Improved MPS:

Ms. Kristine De Luna, Project Coordinator of Project AID, discussed successful academic interventions that contributed to an overall increase in the Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of students across major subjects, signifying improved academic performance.


4. Reading Challenges:

Ms. Jenny Vieve M. Oamil, REAP Coordinator, addressed ongoing challenges in word recognition and comprehension faced by a segment of students. Identified struggling students, particularly in HUMSS, ABM, and TVL programs, are receiving targeted remediation to enhance their reading skills.


5. Mathematics Proficiency:

Mr. Perry Taborda, Program Coordinator, presented alarming data on students struggling with fundamental math operations, emphasizing the urgent need to address numeracy challenges in the student body. A staggering 51.70% of newly enrolled students at Malvar SHS are struggling with fundamental math operations required at the senior high level based on the result of the math exam administered during enrollment.


6. Examination Results and Academic Progress:

Mr. Marvin Saludo, Master Teacher II, provided an encouraging overview of the academic progress achieved during the last quarters. The report showcased a significant decrease in the number of failing grades, demonstrating the effectiveness of teaching methods and support systems.


7. Addressing Behavioral Issues:

Ms. Joie Miranda, the Guidance Designate, addressed the prevalent issue of behavioral challenges, including cases of bullying from the previous school year. She emphasized the necessity of targeted programs and initiatives to create a safe and conducive learning environment.



8. Health and Nutrition Initiatives:

Ms. Maria Diana Sales, Clinic Teacher, highlighted Project Knowtrisyon, an initiative aimed at assisting students with low Body Mass Index (BMI) and promoting overall health and well-being among the student population.


9. School-Based Management (SBM) Success:

Mr. Jerrold Ramos explained the remarkable success of the School-Based Management initiatives and programs implemented during the school year. The positive outcomes were reflected in the school's overall performance and efficiency.


10. Infrastructure Development:

Mr. John Christian Sabaulan provided an update on Project FACADE, designed to renovate 20 classrooms over three years. The ongoing construction of room 204 B is a notable step forward in this initiative.


11. Community Support and Donations:

Ms. Leslie Reyes, Brigada Eskwela Coordinator, reported a substantial increase in donations from various stakeholders, including the local government, private institutions, and engaged community members, during the last Brigada. The increased support will significantly benefit the school and its students.


12. Financial Reports:

To conclude the meeting, the Principal, Ms. Rosalie L. Liwanag, presented the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) and Special Education Fund (SEF) financial reports of the school, providing stakeholders with transparency regarding the school's financial standing.


The meeting's success was underscored by the active and collaborative participation of all stakeholders, collectively working towards the betterment of the educational experience at Malvar Senior High School. These insights will play a crucial role in shaping the strategies and action plans for the upcoming academic quarters.


In addition, special guests at the meeting included Mr. Clark Sarmiento, SSLG President; Ms. Ana Liza Garing, PTA President; Mr. Dennis Castillo, Faculty President and Hon. Servillano Bing Perilla, as a representative of the local government. Their valuable contributions and presence added depth to the discussions and further emphasized the importance of collaboration in shaping the school's future.
