Malvar, Philippines – July 2024 – The Brigada Eskwela 2024 at Malvar Senior High School was a testament to the power of community spirit and dedication. Despite the challenges posed by inclement weather, the event showcased the unwavering commitment of volunteers, students, and faculty to prepare the school for the upcoming academic year.
Day 1: A Rainy Start with a Strong Commitment
The event kicked off on July 22, 2024, with a mass at Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Malvar at 6:30 AM. The initial plan was to have a parade from the church to the school, but due to strong rains, the parade was canceled for the safety of the participants, including SSLG officers, Malvar SHS faculty, and personnel. Instead, everyone proceeded directly to the school for the cleanup activities.
Originally, the plan was to clean the school grounds, but the rain necessitated a change in plans. Volunteers, including SK Chairman Rafael Custodio and representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard Balete Sub-Office, focused on cleaning the classrooms instead. Both Custodio and the Coast Guard representatives signed the pledge of commitment, underscoring their dedication to the cause.
Days 2-5: Weather-Induced Pause
Unfortunately, the strong rains continued, leading to the cancellation of activities from Day 2 to Day 5, as advised by authorities due to an orange warning. The safety of all participants was prioritized, and the community waited for better weather to resume their efforts.
Day 6: A Resilient Return
The activities resumed on Saturday, July 27, with all volunteers scheduled for Days 2 to 5 joining in. The day was marked by the presence of SPTA President Evangeline Adarlo and Federation President Ana Liza Garing, who also signed the pledge of commitment and generously donated cleaning materials and paint for the school.
The registration and documentation were efficiently managed by SSLG and El Calibre Student Publication, ensuring a smooth process for all participants.
While donations were fewer this year, the efforts poured in by the volunteers were immense. The rainy season had caused moss to grow on the concrete in the open ground, but thanks to the diligent work of the utility personnel, it was thoroughly cleaned.
